How many hairs can electrolysis remove per session? Off the Hook Laser and Spa

Updated: Apr 6

At Off the Hook laser and spa, we stress that accuracy and, thus, an effective treatment is far more important than speed. There is no set speed at which electrologists can be expected to work.

There are several factors that can slow down or speed up the work pace. Some of these are:

  • The area—Some areas are more difficult to work on than others. Like the genital zone, for example. Since the skin is more rubbery and flexible, it doesn’t only take more time to stretch the skin for proper insertion, the insertion itself is more difficult too. Other challenging areas are those of the neck and under the chin, since they’re more difficult to reach, and hairs grow in all directions.

  • The type of hair—Some hairs or hair types are more stubbornly attached to the skin. It takes more than one attempt to effectively remove them.

  • The shape—Sometimes the hair bends below the surface of the skin, this makes the insertion more challenging.

  • The depth—When hairs are located deeper, it takes longer since more ‘area’ needs to be destroyed.

Facial area

The above being said, with our thermolysis program, we have an average removal rate of 300- 575 hairs per hour.

Genital area

In the genital area, as explained above, the hourly amount of permanently removed hairs is lower. We can conclude that the average removal rate in this zone is 250- 445 hairs per hour.

Don’t be blinded by hairs per hour

Everyone wants value for money but don’t be blinded by hairs per hour. Speed is pretty meaningless if most of the hair grows back. In the end, the permanent removal rate is what matters.

No matter how good your electrologist is and no matter what their technique is, they won’t be able to stop regrowth in one session. We will explain that in another blog post!
