How does laser vein removal work?

Laser is simply concentrated light energy. When the light finds an attraction the energy is absorbed and turns to heat energy. The attraction for laser vein removal is the hemoglobin in the blood. Laser energy passes through the skin, onto the blood vessel where the energy is absorbed by the hemoglobin. Heat is generated and diffuses to the surrounding blood vessels, which damages and ultimately destroys the vessel. The laser is turned on for only a fraction of a second in order that the energy be absorbed by the vein, without damaging the surrounding skin.

The treatment consists of tracing each vein with a laser emitted from a pen-like instrument. The expected result is a reddened, heat damaged vein which is absorbed by the body over a 3-4 week period.

How does the removal of pigmented lesions work?

The attraction for pigmented lesions can be either hemoglobin or melanin (the pigment that gives our skin and hair color), depending upon the type of lesion. As with veins, the laser energy is absorbed and turns from light energy to heat energy.

Highly concentrated lesions turn dark brown to black in color and fall off within 2 - 7 days. The skin underneath is considerably more pale, closer to your normal skin color.

Paler lesions will have a less dramatic response and a small amount of blistering may be present before the pigmented lesion falls off. The remaining skin will be similar to your normal skin color.

What is the cost for laser vein removal and removal of pigmented lesions?

Laser vein removal services and removal of pigmented lesions are charged by the time required to perform an effective treatment.

What sort of equipment is used for laser vein removal and the removal pigmented lesions?

The laser equipment used for vein treatment and the removal of pigmented lesions is an Iriderm TM Diolite Laser System. This laser produces a mild pinching sensation as the laser beam is traced along the vein or pigmented lesion. There is a warm feeling accompanying the treatment. The warmth is controlled by cold packs applied during treatment.
