Alopecia Areata

Alopecia Areata is classified as an autoimmune disease. For unknown reasons, the body’s own immune system mistakenly attacks the hair follicle. This drastically affects hair follicle production. Interestingly, the immune system does not attack stem cells within the follicle. Stem cells produce new follicular cells. This means that the follicle always has the potential to grow new hair; provided that there is no scarring present.

The cause of Alopecia Areata is unknown. People with this condition are generally in good health and lifestyle options have not caused their hair to fall out. Usually the hair loss occurs in round patches on the scalp and elsewhere. You may lose and regrow your hair a number of times as the hair loss areas seem to move around the scalp. Given this predicament, hair loss and a new growth prognosis is difficult to gage.

Alopecia Areata generally responds well to Low Level Light Therapy. For large areas, we recommend treatment with the Stimulase Professional Laser as it has multiple lasers which treat large surface areas. Smaller areas of hair loss can be treated sufficiently with the Hairmax Laser Comb.

  • Stimulase Professional Laser
The Stimulase™ professional laser is a large laser that you sit under. It has 112 lasers contained within 7 moveable heads. It allows for the lasering of large surface areas and as such is recommended for advanced hair loss, or for more intensive laser therapy. We recommend two treatments a week, lasting 30 minutes at a time.

  • Hairmax Laser Comb
The HairMax™ Laser Comb is a hand held laser with 9 diode lasers within it. It is recommend for anyone who may prefer to undergo the laser treatment in the privacy of their own home, or for those who are not able to travel to and from treatments. The HairMax™ Laser Comb covers smaller areas at a time and thus would take longer to cover larger surface areas. It is therefore recommended for clients with mild to moderate hair loss, or to augment treatment with the Stimulase™ Professional Laser.
