Great Skin at Any Age Starts with These Four Steps:

  1. SUN PROTECTION
  2. EXFOLIATION
  3. ANTIOXIDANTS
  4. CELL GROWTH STIMULATION

1. SUN PROTECTION

It is not a coincidence that sun protection is number one on the steps to great skin care. Sun protection is the most important and most ignored step, especially in the younger generation. Sun damage or photo-aging is the largest cause of skin aging and generally begins to show up in your late 20's or early 30's.

Avoidance of direct sunlight, along with the habitual use of sun block is the easiest method of causing a physical improvement in the condition of skin. Using skin protection will prevent further damage and will give the skin the opportunity to use its natural capacity to repair photo damage.

The best topical sun blocks are those with titanium dioxide and zinc oxide. These provide both UVA & UVB protection.

We Recommend:

  1. Natural Amore Mineral Makeup and Amore Mineral Sun block. Not only do these block UV rays, they also have anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties.
  2. Avoid tanning beds. The UV light emitted causes burns, premature aging and skin cancer.
  3. Wear a hat to decrease squinting and crow’s feet around the eyes.
  4. Wear sunglasses; this decreases squinting and crow’s feet around the eyes.
  5. Sun block should be worn everyday, even in the winter and even if it is overcast.
  6. Beware of sun damage from reflective surfaces like water, sand and snow.

2. EXFOLIATION (reducing the top layer of skin)

As we age, the cells in the top layer of the skin are not shed effectively, leading to dull, thickened, and uneven skin. Exfoliants help remove these skin cells so they can be shed, leaving newer cells underneath. This helps our skin look younger.

Regular exfoliation also helps skin care products penetrate better, as layers and layers of dead skin can act like an impermeable layer.

Removing dead cells boosts the effectiveness of our Natural Moisturizing Factor, which also allows our skin to self hydrate.

We Recommend:

  1. Regular use of exfoliants such as AFA (Amino Acid Filaggrin Antioxidant), Alpha Hydroxy Acids & Beta Hydroxy Acids.
  2. Chemical Peels (light acid peels)
  3. Microdermabrasion- a mechanical exfoliation, which uses crystal and suction to remove dead skin cells.

3. INCREASE ANTIOXIDANTS (Needed to fight free radicals)

The most widely accepted theory on aging is the free radical theory.

Free radicals steal electrons from healthy cells, causing cell damage and even cell death. Ultraviolet light is the number one cause of free radical damage to the skin.

Antioxidants bind with the free radicals making them harmless, thus, antioxidant rich products help repair skin and prevent free radical damage.

Some common antioxidants include:

  • Vitamin C (ascorbic acid and L-ascorbic acid)
  • Alpha Lipoic Acid
  • Alpha Hydroxy Acid
  • Vitamin A’s (retinoids)
  • Spin Traps
  • Vitamin C Ester
  • DMAE (dimethylaminoethanol)
  • Beta Hydroxy acid
  • Vitamin E
  • AFA (Amino Acid Filaggrin Antioxidant)

We Recommend:

  1. AFA Gel; amino acid filaggrin antioxidants, for all skin types, available in 3 strengths.
  2. Amore Age Defense Serum; low lipid, high antioxidant product, good for all skin types.
  3. Amore Night Defense Cream; high in antioxidant cream, great for drier, more mature skin.

4. CELL GROWTH STIMULATION

Young skin has a high cell turnover. New cells are constantly produced and older cells are constantly shed. New cell growth can be enhanced with peels and microdermabrasion, through a complex set of events that mimic healing.

We Recommend:
EGF (Epidermal Growth Factor) is a new skin care product that directly stimulates cell growth and is important to anti-aging skin care regime.
